Jurgen Moltmann (born December 29, 1928) is a German theologian and the current President of the World Council of Churches. Through his work as a professor and activist, Moltmann has been known for his criticisms of consumerism and the commodification of religion. He is also known for his work on how to use politics to respond to issues of justice. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1958 by Bishop Clemens von Galen, who had become the Archbishop of Münster in Westphalia. After teaching at three German universities, he became Professor Extraordinarius at the University of Münster in 1969 where he remained until his appointment as President of the World Council of Churches in 1988. He has published numerous books including Money or Life, Money or Love? The Church and the New Economy.
